Outskirts
Taverna:
Mattia Preti homeland, called the Calabrese knight, the great
baroque painter here left a big number of paintings. In the
St. Domenico church you can find an art gallery containing several
paintings from Mattia Preti and Gregorio Preti, like the Cristo
fulminante and the St. Sebastiano Martirio. Others paintings
are available in St. Barbara church. o.
Pizzo
Calabro: well known for the
execution, on October 13th 1815, of Gioacchino Murat. Pizzo
is also known for fishing and tuna conservation and ice-cream
preparation (the famous tartufo – the truffle). Its origins
are coming from middle ages. Famous are St. Francesco of Paola
church, Matrice church, Piedigrotta church, small and evocative
in front of the sea, dig into the stone. The monastery of minimi,
St. Giorgio church.
Roccelletta
di Borgia: Delightful jonic
city. Interesting are the archaeological excavation. An old
Greek colony has been discovered, Skyletion, later changed a
roman city Scolacium. To see: archaeological park (theatre,
necropolis, statues, the basilica).
Sersale:
city located in the pre-Sila, immersed in a gorgeous green (with
big ultra- centennial trees). Interesting trips are organized
into canyons and falls.
Gizzeria:
on the feet of Mancuso mountain, on Tirreno sea. It was born
in 1000 a.C. . To see: Malta knight tower, Annunziata church,
the Maiolo museum.
Falerna:
it was born on the middle of 1600. Older is Castiglione fraction,
old village rise on X century a.C. To see: the bend on the roman
castle (ruins), archaeological park on Pain of vigne, Lupo Tower.
Nocera
Terinese: a small city on the
South side of a steep hill. Very interesting the Holy Saturday
event. There you can assist to Vattienti rituals. To see: the
cappuccini monastery ruins, built in 1581 on the Northman castle.
The defence tower in Piano del Casale, Terina tower, St. Francesco
church, the Federician triumphal arch, St Giovanni Battista
church with a statue from ‘500, famous portals, the Odoardi
Palace.
Carlopoli:
this town history is linked to Corazzo abbey. Found from benedettini
monks and then passed to cistercensi on 1157, the abbey was
wanted from Northman to oppose to Greek church. Gioacchino da
Fiore was abbot there. Valuable is the marble oval (from 1700)
kept in the Spirito Santo church in fraction Castagna.
In the middle of Region close to Catanzaro, not far from us,
you’ll find Tiriolo,
you can see both seas from there. Loom art is very famous and
specially preparation of shawl with wool and silk, used as part
of traditional costume. It is worth going there for a visit
to Judecca district, the Spanish balcony, the old palaces. To
see also: castle ruins, Alemanni palace, Serrastretta,
full of nice craftsmanship. City plunged into forest of beech
and chestnut since XIV a.C. Here you can see broom transformation
into material. Remarkable is seats factory. In this mountain
city, full of snow in winter, you can visit several rural palaces,
used to dry chestnuts.

Acconia:
remarkable are thermal baths ruins .
Oasi
wwf: for nature lovers, close
to Trigna on Angitola Lake. Intresting also for swamp birds.
Monte
Reventino: for trekking lovers.
Close to the farm, you can follow there several trails. |
