FERLA’S FARM HISTORY

part
The founder of La Ferla’s farm is a Sicilian,
Antonino the Ferla, that arrived in Calabria, he feels pleased
of the water wealth of this county and willing to cultivate
rice, already cultivating in Sicily, moves himself with the
family, with Orazio young guy. Orazio, very soon, was forced
to leave for army; it is the time of the Great War (1915/1918).
After several vicissitudes towards the end of the war it was
captured and withheld in one German farm; this is an important
phase of its life because even if prisoner he acquired attitude
and also agrarian technical more advances than those practiced
in our Regions. On his back from war he didn’t find the
father and a young sister any more demolished from the epidemic
of "Spanish" fever in Trigna house. Orazio, upset
from these prematurely losses becomes head of the family. At
this time in Trigna farm, like in all S. Eufemia swampy plain
the malaria is raging. Orazio participates, together to other
agriculturists, supported from the government of the age, to
the plain reclamation through the excavation of great channels
that were realized manually.
